Design and construction of a one-family home B.-D. & pharmacy

This project combines a pharmacy with a family home on sloping ground. The features of the ground offered a good starting point to take the two functions separately from each other both functionally and visually: The pharmacy faces the street side with its own car park and access to the right side of the building, whilst the pharmacy residence is given its own access with parking space on the left side of the home. The elevated entrance to the home means that the residents can always look out over the parked cars to see the surrounds.

The pharmacy and living area are both located on the ground floor, but they are separated physically from each other by means of a wall and the stairs to the different levels.

Recesses in the facade break up the front and left sides to give the building a light and welcoming character.

A comfortable home

The large amount of space needed to construct a functional pharmacy required a well considered organisation of the living rooms on the same level. An open kitchen, dining room, and sitting room are located in one line in a rectangular area along the rear façade, which is almost entirely glazed. This ensures daylight and a view of the deep back garden.

Thanks to an open space between the staircase and the rear facade, a wealth of light exposure enhances the quality of life on that floor.

A skylight allows the residents to bathe literally and figuratively in the light in the second bathroom. A patio between the landing, overflow office, and master bedroom attracts extra daylight in the master bedroom. The patio functions at the same time as an outside shower for the main bedroom.
