Privacy versus openness.

House
Lanaken 2011

Design and realization of an open single-family residence.

The closed front aspect is completely different from the open appearance of the rear aspect. The internal organization is based on that interaction between open and closed. The living spaces and bedrooms are located along the glazed garden facade. Cantilevers protect the windows and prevent overheating. The living spaces are oriented in an L-form around a large evening terrace.

A view of the patio increases the feeling of spaciousness in the entrance area and on the landing, and admits the morning sun to the master bedroom.

The distinctive facing brick implemented with thin-bed mortar gives the impression of a massive stone. The dark stone provides a nice contrast with the light plasterwork.
