Nieuw Sint-Truiden: Beacon for the estate.

Group construction
Sint-Truiden 2014

Design and realization of 4 flats and 8 houses.

The surrounds were a prominent factor in the design of these council facilities in De Brede Akker in Sint-Truiden. The building plot lies on the periphery of the housing estate at the start of an agricultural area. This required a beacon function. The corner section with three floors meets this need. The other housing units run down gradually to the same heights as the other properties on the estate. The predominantly ground-floor homes occasionally have a second floor to maintain a dynamic frontage. Midway along the plot the buildings have a kink, which is a second defining element in the design.

The homes are designed so as to benefit from a south-facing private garden. The window openings and the frontage have been positioned diagonally. This means they not only guide visitors to the front door, but also define the views of the landscape.

The plain design is finished in a facing brick in which the defining aluminium furnishing allows the rhythm of the frontage to come into its own.
