This half-open single-family residence connects to an existing residence at the left edge of the property. The two residences are staggered, with the Leunessen residence being 5 metres forward from the adjoining residence. To connect the two building volumes together in a suitable form fashion, the protruding building volume was given a flat roof. At the intersection with the front facade line of an adjacent parcel, this changes to a sloping roof.

Diversity of experience

The original design was partially sunk into the ground to make use of the surroundings. The clients decided to raise the building completely above ground. This does not detract from the intended experience. Internally we especially sought for a varied experience of space and light. The ground floor is conceived as one large area. The patio at that level allows the southern light to come in as far as the entrance section. The glazed courtyard brings light into the front bedroom. The private outdoor space (that is not noticeable from the street) gives the bedroom an intimate character.
