House
Bocholt 2015

Design and realization of a single-family residence.

In this project in Bocholt the designer leaves trodden paths and plays with inside and outside spaces. In this way he arrives at a new spatial and organizational view of the property. The residence and property boundary are connected with each other in a creative way. This gives the remaining space added value and the concept distinguishes itself from how a lot is normally used. The unused spaces now contribute to a distinctive living experience, among other things, by the inclusion of a patio and terrace.

Overhead light
Three recesses in the rectangular form admit overhead light to the heart of the fairly closed upper storey. Open and closed characteristics greatly determine the symmetrical ground plan of the residence. The rough hand-moulded brick provide unity of form. In the walled-in area, the facing brick on the outside is combined with shuttering boards on the inside. The markings of the wood grain in the concrete provide a tactile attractiveness. The embracing wall gives the impression of a fortress in the middle of the subdivision. By creating openings in the wall and by selecting unharsh materials, the designer decreased this fortress feeling.

Patios create certain atmospheres in the bedrooms and office spaces on the first floor ranging from intimacy to openness.
